The National Intervention Council, Cardiological Society of India has been functioning for the past more than 10 years now with the express purpose of bringing to a common platform all the vascular interventional work being done by the Cardiologists of our country. From a small meeting held during evening hours during the annual CSI conference where operators would hesitatingly discuss their techniques of passing wires and balloons in the coronaries, we now have full fledged meetings where multivessel stenting and difficult lesions are now rather hard pressed to find a place in the presentation programme.

Interventional cardiology of the coronary tree though seemingly having overshadowed most other areas of Cardiology has also brought to forefront a humble realization that no matter how good we may be at interventions ultimately it is the global management of atherosclerosis which can lessen the burden of the vascular disease. On the other hand interventions in congenital heart disease have opened up previously unexplored facts of congenital heart problems with a now promising outlook for so many of the previously given up patients. Peripheral vascular disease owes its increasing awareness to the immense possibilities offered by innovative vascular interventions. Our electrophysiology field has also progressed remendously with ever widening applications and advances.

Once we realize that this is our society, our data and our group and take justifiable pride in being part of a highly skilled and a committed work force with immense potential and possibilities, there is no stopping us to achieving greater heights and milestones.
